Hiking trails just outside the newly revamped Nuuk Airport is a good way to see the beautiful landscape and wildlife of Greenland. Start the journey by plane spotting, watching planes take off and land. Head to the end of the runway and pass Greenland`s only "closed" prison to find the trail head. (In 2023, the average prisoner population was 153.) When crossing streams, take a drink of the refreshing Greenlandic water.

Getting ready for the summit selfie.
I left them their space and enjoyed the view from where I was instead, until they were done (took quite some time😄). Scene from the summit of Palasip Qaqqaa a few kilometers from Sisimiut. As I learnt on my hike up to the top, it is a very popular evening (and/or) morning activity of the locals, to hike (or run) up, sometimes twice per day, during summer. The view from up there was described to me as being addictive, and I can only agree.

Wind, waves, and saltwater shape these forms into something that seems almost intentional.
East Greenland’s ice is constantly evolving – melting, flipping, and freezing anew.
Fun fact: The glacial ice here is so pure it can be melted and drunk directly – many locals do.
